You have to be considered a "Veteran". This means you have to have proof that you owned a previous BF game (1943 on XLBA or PC expansion packs don't count). When you go to the website to claim veteran, you have to either have BFBC1 on your HDD (console) or have a keycode from a previous game.
It took 3 weeks after I went to the site to recognize I was a veteran.
